PURPOSES:

The Central Florida Chapter adopts fully the stated purposes of the National Association, which are:

"to benefit the public good and generally enrich the public through: (i) encouragement of Members to achieve the highest standards in their teaching of singing; (ii) promotion of vocal education and research at all levels, both for the enrichment of the general public and for the professional advancement of the talented; (iii) requiring Members’ adherence to stated ethical principles in the teaching of the vocal arts; and (iv) organizing and affiliating its Members to provide nationwide accessibility to qualified teachers for all students of singing."

Additionally, as set out in the Central Florida Chapter By-Laws [see sidebar link], we strive:

(1) to establish and maintain the highest possible standards of ethical principles and practices in the profession of teaching singing and the vocal art;
(2)
to establish and maintain the highest possible standards of competence in the teaching profession;
(3)
to encourage and conduct research - disseminating information to the profession at large; and
(4)
to stimulate effective cooperation among vocal teachers for their mutual welfare and advancement.

The Central Florida Chapter subscribes without reservation to the “Code of Ethics,” [see sidebar link] adherence to which is one of the conditions of individual membership in the National Association.

HOW TO JOIN:

If you are interested in joining our chapter, please contact one of the officers listed on our Contact page.

As stated in the Central Florida NATS By-Laws:

"All teachers of singing who have been accepted by the National Association into full, affiliate, or emeritus membership, and who reside in the geographical area where the Central Florida Chapter has been chartered or otherwise encouraged to serve, are immediately eligible for membership in the Chapter."

See links on the sidebar to the left to find NATS membership qualifications, or to request a printed membership brochure from the national office.

DUES AND MEETINGS:

Annual Chapter dues (currently set at only $20 per year) are payable by January 1 of each year.

In accordance with the Central Florida NATS By-Laws: :

"Notices of non-payment of dues shall be sent to delinquent members on February 1 of each year.  If any remain unpaid by March 1 of that year, said membership shall automatically cease."

A $5 late fee will be assessed, beginning February 1, and that individual's membership listing on our website will be suspended until dues are received.

The CFL NATS Chapter will meet a minimum of twice per year, but may meet more often for promotional, social, professional, and/or educational activities.  Please refer to our Events page for recent and upcoming events, and also for non-NATS events which may be of interest.  Business meetings shall be conducted in accordance with Robert’s Rules of Order [see sidebar link].

Opera Quiz (just for fun):

Just for fun, your CFLNATS Webmaster offers you the following divertissement...  If you think you know the answer, email it (including the name of the character, the opera in which that character appears, and an imaginative response from "Dear Appy" to that character) through the link provided below.  Correct answers will meet with some sort of prize (Don't expect too much!) - the best response letter will be posted here at a later date. Check back for a new quiz every so often...  We'll begin with a rather easy one.

Name the operatic character who might have sent this letter to “Dear Appy”:

My girlfriend admired my big muscles and kept asking me the secret of my strength until I finally confessed that it’s due to my long hair. Now she hovers over me with a pair of scissors. I’m nervous as a cat and feel weak as a kitten. Should I give her up?

Email your answer.

If you want to try to come up with your own "Dear Appy" letter from a favorite operatic character, send that in as well - you might see it in this spot sometime soon...
